Borujerd, Iran
Carpet weaving in Borujerd dates back to the Safavid period, but it flourished during the Qajar period. During this period, large European companies such as Ziegler were interested in buying Borujerd rugs, and their exports flourished. Borujerd rugs are more rustic in style and have simpler, geometric designs than carpets from major cities such as Tabriz rug and Kashan rug. These rugs are very similar to Bakhtiari rugs but specific to the Borujerd region.
