Osku is one of the oldest cities in Iran, located 20 kilometers southwest of Tabriz. The old name of this city was “Oshkaya” and its people speak Azeri Turkish. This region has mild summers and cold winters. Agriculture, animal husbandry, textiles, silk weaving, and carpet weaving constitute the economic activities of the people of Osku. The tourist village of Kandovan is located 18 kilometers from Osku, which dates back seven thousand years. This village has beautiful landscapes for domestic and foreign tourists to visit due to its houses, such as beehives.

The city of Osku has a long history in carpet production. Like Tabriz rugs, Osku is also an urban-style rug weaving center. In the past, Osku rugs have been produced using natural materials such as wool and vegetable dyes. Osku carpets are woven using symmetrical knots and double-weft techniques. Despite the long history of carpet weaving in this region, the number of Osku rugs available in the market is very limited and they are not very famous.
