Shahsavan Rug

Shahsavan are a nomadic group of Azerbaijanis who live in parts of Iran, especially Ardabil, Mughan Plain, East Azerbaijan, Zanjan, Saveh. Nomads of Shahsavan used to raise livestock and agriculture for their livelihood. The nomadic lifestyle has made it possible to obtain raw materials such as wool for the preparation of carpets and kilims. The Shahsavan hand-made rug is one of the nomadic rugs that is woven in the aforementioned provinces of Iran. In these carpets, the warp and weft are cotton and pile is wool, and  symmetrical knot is used for weaving.
