Sirjan is one of the ancient cities of Iran, located in Kerman Province. Sirjan rugs are nomadic handmade rugs woven in this region. Most of the weavers of Sirjan are from the Afshar nomads, although some weavers are from other ethnic groups. These rugs were originally woven for nomadic life and were not commercial. The people who wove them followed an ancient tradition that was thousands of years old. Nomadic girls began weaving carpets from a young age and presented them as part of their dowry. The finished rug was considered a declaration of the girl’s readiness for marriage.

Since the last quarter of the 19th century, Afshar rugs of Sirjan entered the trade market. Afshar rug designs consist of geometric designs and animal or plant motifs that are reminiscent of the Azerbaijani roots of these nomads. Today, these simple and geometric designs have also become the reason why Sirjan rugs are popular abroad. Because many people do not like busy and detailed designs. These beautiful floor coverings can enhance the appearance of a room and keep it warm.

Also, Sirjan is famous in the field of kilim production and the main export of this kilim is to Europe. In this kilim, like sumak, the weft does not play a role in the texture and is only used to connect the warps to each other. Unlike Shahsavan kilims, Sirjan kilims are not double-sided and can only be used on one side.

Sirjan Afshar rugs are unique treasures that nomadic women spend months weaving. One carpet may be similar to another, but it is never the same. Because each carpet is the mental emanation of a weaver who has not used any plan. Whether in the bedroom, living room, or office, Sirjan rugs instill elegance and Iranian traditions and exude a sense of luxury. These carpets not only beautify your home but also radiate peace and warmth.
